Site investigation
Before anything is founded, the ground has to be known. Exploratory drilling, probing and groundwater monitoring wells provide the data for this.

Where drilling takes place
Exploratory and core drilling
It takes soil samples from defined depths.
Probe drilling
It examines the ground at specific points, including for unexploded ordnance.
Groundwater monitoring wells
They hold pipes used to monitor groundwater level and quality over time. A field where demand is growing measurably.
Drilling for contaminated site investigation
The same principle with stricter requirements.
Why it is demanding
- The sites are undeveloped. Unpaved ground, slopes, gaps between existing buildings.
- Many points, little set-up time. The faster the machine is moved, the more drilling points per day.
- The sample has to stay usable. A smoothly turning drive without gear steps is the prerequisite for this.
How and why an MGF drill motor is used here
Small machine, small site
Site investigations often take place where nothing has been built yet. A drive on an excavator or compact machine gets to places a truck-mounted drilling rig cannot reach.
Many points, little set-up time
An investigation consists of many short boreholes at changing locations. The faster the machine is moved, the more points per day.
Smooth running for clean samples
A smoothly turning drive without gear steps is the prerequisite for a core sample to remain usable.
Which model for which investigation
| Task | Torque · Weight | MGF models |
|---|---|---|
| Smallest probes, lightest carrier machines | 2,560 Nm · 40 kg | BG 260 |
| Precise probe drilling | 4,800 Nm · 80 kg | BG 480 |
| Standard exploratory drilling | 8,000 Nm · 120 kg | BG 800 |
| Probes with larger diameters | 10,800 Nm · 170 kg | BG 1080 |
Drive and tools from one source
Probe and exploratory drilling needs a steady supply of rods, augers and crowns, i.e. wear parts that are replaced regularly.

Frequently asked questions
The BG 260 weighs 40 kilograms and delivers 2,560 Nm. It is the smallest size in the MGF range.
No. For the usual diameters, a compact hydraulic drill motor on the existing carrier machine is enough.
